“WaterWay”
Drainable Stucco Assembly
Enhanced Traditional Stucco
Incorporating Cavity Construction and Elastomeric Acrylic Finish

Rainscreen Stucco Assembly
The WATERWAY DRAINABLE STUCCO assembly is an enhanced traditional stucco system that can be configured as a back ventilated, or a dead air cavity wall cladding system. Both configurations are considered drainage systems in that intruding moisture is able to drain to the exterior. The basic system consists of a rain screen, which protects against moisture intrusion, a drainage cavity that captures intruding moisture and drains it to the exterior and a permeable air barrier, which not only protects against air infiltration into the interior of the building but also guards against liquid moisture penetration and allows for water vapor diffusion.
From Boston to Seattle, the “WaterWay” Drainable Stucco Assembly is finding acceptance with some of the most recognized and distinguished building enclosure specialists in North America. In both new construction and cases of cladding remediation, the WaterWay Stucco assembly accommodates essential criteria in today’s construction environment. Enhancing traditional stucco with an advanced component assembly assures economic feasibility, superior product performance, increased customer satisfaction and an extended service life.
The “WaterWay Stucco Assembly” is a new approach to traditional stucco incorporating through-wall flashing details, secondary moisture barriers, WaterWay drainage mat providing a mechanism of space, traditional cement stucco, polymer modified base coat with reinforcing mesh and an Elastomeric Acrylic Finish. This system answers increasing demand for exterior claddings to enhance envelope integrity and reduce potential challenges associated with moisture penetration.
Stuc-O-Flex, International, Inc. created this modified approach to achieve design objectives while satisfying client requirements and minimizing potential challenges. Over 20 million feet in service without a single compromise confirms the efficiencies of this “WaterWay Stucco Assembly” design.

The “WaterWay” Stucco approach consists of THERM-FLASH (proprietary self-adhering butyl-based flexible flashing), code compliant WRB, WATERWAY DRAINAGE MAT (a drainage matrix of random nylon filaments), accessories, standard scratch and brown stucco, STUC-O-BASE (polymer modified base coat) with reinforcing fiberglass mesh complete with STUC-O-FLEX (Elastomeric Acrylic Finish) and appropriate sealant. The materials unique to this design are described below:
THERM-FLASH Butyl-Based Flexible Flashing
Aggressive adhesion and initial tack – No priming requirements, no solvents or bleeding oils, compatible with sealant materials, wide temperature range, Class “A” fire rating, and a thick foil fascia on the top surface.

Therm-Flash Flexible Flashing
WATERWAY RAINSCREEN DRAINAGE MAT
WaterWay Rainscreen Drainage Mats consist of a Nylon / Polymer core of fused, entangled filaments in varying thicknesses from a nominal 1/4 inch to 3/4 inch, depending on desired cavity space and cladding selection. Certain profiles are available with a protective filter fabric bonded to one side or consider WaterWay Plus - a revolutionary “Patent Pending” Drainage Mat consisting of a .45” / 11.4mm thick polymer matrix heat laminated to a breathable filter fabric on one side and a code compliant weather resistive barrier (WRB) on the other side.
